Jennings, LA – July 21st

The Inspirational Country Music Association was on the road again in their search for new talent.

The second stop of this year’s Nashville Talent Showdown, was held on Saturday, July 21st at the Strand Theater in Jennings, LA. The event was hosted by Hunter Logan from HLE Radio in Jennings. It was a great day of teaching, mentoring, and competition with some amazing talent.

Dustin Steen of Lucedale, MS took home first place. Dustin got his passion for music from his parents. He has been writing and recording all his life. Dustin made it to Hollywood on American Idol only to have his joke aired, but not his audition. That put a fire under Dustin to keep pushing as hard as he can, and to continue putting 100 percent into his writing. Dustin said, “I plan to let my music see every bit of my faith and different genre styles”. He impressed the judges with an original song
“This Sinner”.

Breanna Morris claimed second place. Breanna is a realtor from South Mississippi. She is newly engaged with a 5 year old son. Breanna has been singing since she was a little girl, with a dream to be a country singer. The competition she said, “is a dream come true” for her. Her priorities and goals have changed a bit over the last few years and she has begun singing in church more frequently, and hopes to now pursue a career as an Inspirational Country Artist. For the competition, Breanna sang a beautiful rendition of Martina McBride’s “Anyway”.

The third place winner was 13 year old Karvin Rigdon from DeRidder, LA. Karvin has been singing since he was just a small child. He sings a lot in church with his brother. When asked by judges if he writes, he said, “No, but I jot things down from time to time!” Karvin, accompanied by his father on the guitar, sang the Pearl Jam song “Last Kiss”.

Judges for the Nashville Talent Showdown in Jennings were Jeff Bates, Lisa Daggs, and Chuck Day. Ronnie Horton was the Emcee for the event. Buddy Jewell was unable to attend due to a prior obligation.

The first place winner will advance on to the finals on November 10, 2018 in Nashville, TN to compete for the Grand Finale Title of the Nashville Talent Showdown Winner. The Grand Finale Winner will get the opportunity to perform during the 24th Annual Inspirational Country Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry House on April 4, 2019 in Nashville, TN.
